‘The French Defence’ is a chess opening; a series of moves that gains better position and an avenue for the power pieces.

This work speaks to as protest or crowds or lines of people, possibly even on the defense?.  Protest is, after all, about gaining ground to achieve a better road to the ‘queen/king(s)’  As with all of my work, the painting shifts, and I continue to see new and curious things in this work.
